This wonderful ring is an amazing ancient piece of jewellery, an original piece made over 430 years ago. It is considered Museum Grade 'VF' (very fine).
This ring was made sometime in the 16th Century - between 1500 and 1600. It is made of a solid bronze metal composition. The ring features a simple band with a solitaire bezel cup, set inside is an opaque white medieval glass stone. Medieval glass was almost as highly priced as gemstones back in these times, as it was difficult and costly to make - requiring a skilled craftsman. The white glass stone is framed with a multitude of tiny claws around the bezel. The surface of the glass is mottled, perhaps a little down to age and wear, but even when first created this stone would have had an even surface - due to the way the glass was fired. The stone measures 6.5 mms in diameter.
This Medieval ring was found by a metal detector in 1991, in Dorest, England. It was sourced by myself from a trusted private collection, and the photo of it when it was found from the ground in 1991, in its excavated state, is included in this listing. The exterior of this ring has been restored and polished to make it a wearable piece, but the inside of the band has been left untouched to retain authenticity.
Size Q 1/2 (a medium / large finger size). US size 8 1/4. It would be possible to have this ring sized if desired, but you would need to find a jeweller comfortable working with copper/bronze metals. The ring weighs 1.4 grams.
In worn antique condition but still very wearable, either as a finger ring or placed on a gold chain to wear around the neck. As you can see in the photos some of the claws were un-salvageable in the restoration process, the stone is still secure in the setting. Please bear in mind that this piece is 400+ years old and was found in the ground hundreds of years later, so it does of course have wear to reflect this. Please see the photos.
I have not had this ring certified, as this would mean I would have to drastically increase my prices to cover this cost. Of course, once you have the ring, you could choose to send it to an archaeologist yourself and have a certificate made. I am 100% confident in my source, and in this ring, so I am happy to guarantee it as being in excess of 400 years old. Should you find out otherwise I will offer a full money back guarantee.
